Treatment for Parkinson’s Dementia
The symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) that impact the part of the brain that controls memories, thought process and cognitive abilities are referred to as Parkinson’s Dementia.
PD kills neurons that produce dopamine—an essential neurotransmitter that assists muscle movement. It also affects cognitive abilities and memories.
People who are suffering from Parkinson’s Dementia show the following symptoms:
- anxiety and irritability
- daytime fatigue
- delusions
- depression
- deteriorating memory
- difficulty processing visual information
- hallucinations
- paranoia
- poor quality of sleep
- slurred speech/difficulty in speaking
PD dementia impacts the patient’s problem-solving abilities, the speed at which they process thoughts, their memory, mood and other mental functions.
There is no cure for Parkinson’s Dementia, but treatment can help patients manage their symptoms better.
