Treatment for Dystonia Using Dysport in LA

Dysport is an FDA-approved Botox used to treat lower limb spasticity for children aged 2 and above. This muscle injection therapy blocks overactive nerve signals from reaching the muscles and causes the symptoms to retreat for 4-5 months or longer.

Since 2016, Dysport has helped countless children overcome muscle stiffness. The treatment was approved after a clinical trial involving 235 children from the age of 2 to 17. All of the participants suffered from lower leg spasticity. Around 6 out of 10 kids experienced positive results.

Since more than one muscle can be affected by Dystonia, multiple Botox injections may be needed to be administered. However, there is still a limit to the quantity of Botox that can be pumped into the body. For this reason, the treatment is more effective for focal Dystonia (symptoms limited to one area) rather than generalized Dystonia (symptoms emerging all over the body).

One month into the test, participants showed decreased calf muscle stiffness. Physical and occupational therapy were then used to increase the efficacy of the treatment.

Dr. Farzin Pedouim is a board-certified neurologist based in Huntington Beach and Los Angeles. If your child is suffering from Dystonia, Movement Help provides Dysport treatments under the watchful eye of Dr. Farzin.
